Community Connections

Rabbit Box has partnered with an array of community organizations over the years to showcase stories that foster understanding, deepen connections across differences, and celebrate triumph and resilience.

For example, in October (on the 19th) we’re putting on a show that is a part of the One Book Athens initiative sponsoring a community reading of and discussions about the book “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You.” We’re proud to be one of the many organizations (including Communities in Schools, the public library system, Avid Bookshop, the Chamber of Commerce, the public school system, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation, The League of Step, Chess and Community and many others) that have worked together over many months to plan events around this important book.

Past collaborations have been meaningful and rewarding for audiences and participants alike. Special shows sprang from coaching, workshops, and networking with:

  • Books for Keeps (for stories pertaining to A Life Well Read)
  • Nuçi’s Space (with stories about mental health)
  • The Athens Community Council on Aging (for shows called Silver Box and My Life in Black and White)
  • The Athens-Clarke County Library System (for a show at the library called The Best Book Ever)
  • Coile Middle School (for a collaboration called The Year is Young with Kelli Bivens and other fantastic teachers)
  • Athens for Everyone (for Rise Up!)
  • Boom Magazine and the Unitarian-Universalist Church (for a show titled Sunday Memories)
  • Sandy Creek Park for shows Into the Wild and Masquerade
  • Living Forward for a show called Living Positive, focusing on living with HIV and AIDS
  • Boybutante (for stories from the LGBTQ+ community)
  • The Athens Area Arts Council and the Lyndon House for stories about the arts and artists
  • The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s memoir group (for a show called Written Recollections)
  • Chess and Community (using their catchphrase Think Before You Move)

We reach out to many organizations to connect with storytellers so that we better reflect our community and really get to know one another through our stories.
